One of the most critical items in complying
with DSE requirements is the Work Chair
There is now a legal requirement to comply with DSE regulations:
Whilst, on one hand, the DSE regulations (Display Screen Equipment) 1992 requirements which relate to the work chair are fairly straight forward with respect to the work chair minimum specification, there is, on the other hand, the subjective requirement that the chair must alllow the operator or user easy freedom of movement and a comfortable position.
In our view chairs are like shoes; they need to fit correctly to be comfortable, and they need to be the right type for the task in hand.
Factor in the issue of differences in individual size where the operator/user is concerned, and possible special needs as identified by Occupational Health; and then bring into the equation the multitude of different chair styles, mechanisms, and profiles, and the issue of supplying your staff with the right chair might take on less than a straight forward complexion.
The Issue.
The Solution
A different language for the Office
To get to know the operator/user's requirements we do the following:
Visit the user on-site, at their work station.
Note their body measurements.
Listen to their general requirements with respect to comfort levels and design of the chair
With their permission discuss any postural/medical factors the need to be considered in relation to the chair as specified by their doctor.
With their permission we discuss any relevant issues detailed by Occupational Health Professionals or Work Station Assessors.
Observe their work area and how the Ergonomic Interface will determine the type of chair best for the application.
Discuss the general work issues that may affect the type of chair required.
Based on the above we then:
Arrive at the specification of the chair.
Have the chair built for the user/operator.
Deliver and install the chair for the user at their work station.
Set the chair up for the user and train them in the operation of the controls.
Provide a 2 week no obligation trial of the chair**
